Auntie Teri’s Orchid - a footprint
Painted completely within Inkscape - June, 2024
Printed on Hahnemühle 100% German Etching (cellulose) paper meeting archival standards
In February, we make an annual trip to Southern Florida to visit Auntie Teri.
During the day, we’re on our own, so Heidi and I go to a wonderful French cafe (Bakery of France), and then wander around.
Each year we visit a different garden nursery.
In 2023, the nursery had a special orchid tent, with 3 small orchids for a very low price.
We bought a set. One of them was messed up in the trunk on the way home - lost its flower.
Heidi said, “This is your fault - this one is yours.”
I placed it in the window my office/studio. Within a couple of months it flowered.
Ironically at the time it started to flower, Auntie Teri contracted Covid - and died.
On the anniversary of her death in 2024, the orchid reflowered, with many blooms.
I decided to paint the beautiful orchid, and then made it part of the new Mystical Plant series.
My wife Heidi also wanted to see the orchid in a stand alone art, so I created this for her.
There is only one print with dimensions of 12” height x 12” wide - this is called a footprint.
The above image comes from the .jpg file.
The actual print has softer edges, and literally jumps from the German crafted paper.
