Variations on a Yente

Painted completely within Inkscape - July, 2024

In the summer of 2024, Skidmore College had an exhibit of art from Argentina by Yente and Cecilia Biagni.

I had never seen works by Yente, Eugenia Crenovich, and thought her piece “Composition with White Incision” was fascinating.

It was created in 1949 - see bottom of page.

Similar to music composers creating a new composition based on a theme by others, I decided to create a painting using some of her ideas.

Her art had variations of trapezoids with white borders.

I opted to migrate away to ellipses, added more ellipses and white lines, plus played with textured backgrounds.

A single print, what I call a monoprint, was created: 1 print - 24" wide x 36" tall.

The print was Hahnemühle’s “Cotton Rag” paper - meeting archival standards.

Price includes frame and acrylic that reduces fading from sunlight’s UV rays.

Digital prints and larger sizes are available - contact me for more information.

The following is the art from Yente, created in 1949, which inspired my “Variations”.
